<p>In this piece I address, among other things, issues of becoming. How do we become who we are? What is there already, embedded in our DNA? What do we create through our interactions with each other? The peek-a-boo game (depicted in these images of my daughter Jillian) is actually critically important to the development of small children. Though this seemly benign game, children establish the concept of &#8220;Object Permanence&#8221;, the idea that if something goes behind a wall it is still there and will come back if I look for it. This is critically important to early childhood development and the mitigation of separation anxiety. I wonder if Schrödinger didn’t play enough peek-a-boo as a child. Without words playing peek-a-boo builds up context and meaning by establishing a solidity, permanence, meaning, and stability of the world.
